  • Foods rich in essential fatty acids (such as fish, particularly salmon) help nourish skin and keep it plump and youthful, helping to reduce wrinkles.

 

  • The American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) cautions that sleeping in certain positions night after night leads to "sleep lines” -- wrinkles that become etched into the surface of the skin and don't disappear once you're up. Sleeping face-down gives you a furrowed brow, while sleeping on your side increases wrinkles on cheeks and chin. To reduce wrinkle formation, the AAD recommends that you sleep on your back.

 

  • Getting adequate sleep can be very beneficial to your skin. When you sleep, your body produces hormones that help your skin remain thick, more “elastic” and less likely to wrinkle. If you don’t get enough sleep, your body produces excess cortisol, a hormone that breaks down skin cells.

 

  • Don’t forget to protect your lips from the summer’s sun. Opt for a lip balm with an SPF and apply often.

 

  • For help with dark under-eye circles, try an eye cream that contains vitamin K.

 

  • Protecting your skin daily with an SPF product is important year-round not just during the summer months. Do double duty by wearing a foundation that contains an SPF.

 

  • To reduce the occurrence of puffy eyes, be sure to limit your intake of alcohol and salty foods and drink plenty of water. Proper hydration is key to helping your body and skin look and feel their best.
